After 2 months of reckoning. I finally got myself a Canon 580Ex II. I am still on a borrowed 18-55mm IS but a flash unit is there to stay and do wonders. Con, its heavy and my arm went numb after 10 mins of testing. NEED MORE ARM POWER TRAINING!! Why not 430Ex? Unlike lens, they come in varieties to pick from but 580Ex II is the highest end and save me cash when upgrading from 430Ex. Most important thing, more light is always better and I scrapped my plan for Canon 17-55mm (due to size and weight maybe) giving me more budget to blow it on flash.

hey! i’ve added you to my blogroll and links. how is your DSLR treating your wallet? ^^. i helped out as a photographer at a friend’s wedding. had the extra battery pack + flash fixed onto my D80. it was really heavy! but, you do get nice pictures ^^. hang in there! your arms will get used to the weight soon enough!

Barely survivable. Everyday is budget counting day.
This is heavy but you have to get used to it. I’m agree with you on “more light is better”. Depending on the need, flash is needed in so many situation. If you’re planning on using this flash in mini studio setup, then you’ll need wireless hotshoe slave or ST-E2.
Some people adviced me to get flash first. Good lenses (macro and L lenses) can wait later.
BTW, Mind to exchange links? I’ve added link to your blog at my blogroll.
